Let me introduce you to our Ladner Black Mouth Cur dogs.  Left to right, Zoe, Washburn (Wash) and Bandit are our main three.  These dogs are called the "Original Pioneer Dogs".  The book Old Yeller by Fred Gipson was based on these dogs.  Some folks say "that's a hunting dog", well I'm here to tell you, they are so much more!

There are several lines of Black Mouth Curs and the "Ladner" line is the best all around dogs in my humble opinion.  BMC's can hunt (of course), but can also....decoy, track, herd, protect and be a family dog.  They are extremely intelligent, loyal and active.  These are working dogs that need a job and can get destructive if they do not have enough space, exercise or a clear job to do.

These dogs are part of the foundation of our homestead.  They are varmit control and guardians for my livestock (part of which is free ranging chickens).  They are guardians for the humans as well, but also social enough to be ok with the UPS driver and mail lady.  If one of us is on site, they look to us for approval of visitors, but if we're not home, you don't want to try anything.

This is Zoe climbing a tree after a scent (above).  I called her down and she turned around like a cat and walked down.

Wash loves the high ground where ever he can find it.  lol

Bandit is our stud dog.  He keeps the deer away from my garden and fruit trees.

If these dogs sounds like they might be a good fit for you, I would encourage you to research them some more.  There are several facebook groups about them and I would encourage you to talk to Curt Ladner himself (you can find him or his wife Tonya on facebook) and they will happily tell you anything you might want to know.  Since his family is responsible for the Ladner line, they know their stuff.

Hello!  My name is Kellie and welcome to our farm.  We are going to start a YouTube channel to share with you our journey towards self sufficiency. We have chickens (mostly Dark Brahma), JMF Meat Maker Coturnix Quail, and Black Mouth Cur dogs.  Along with our rabbitry named Mythos Rabbitry, where we have meat mixes (Giant Chinchilla and New Zealand) and our pedigreed Giant Chinchilla rabbits.  Anyone with a farm knows that crazy stuff happens on a farm and we want to share the good, the bad and the ugly.
